Dreamworld deaths are latest in series of emergency incidents at Gold Coast theme parks.

Investigations are underway at Dreamworld following the deaths of four people in an accident on its Thunder River Rapids ride.

Things have gone wrong at the Gold Coast’s theme parks before — but nothing as tragic as this.

Over the past decade, there’s been several incidents that have required emergency services, including a helicopter crash and attractions stalling mid-ride.

Helicopter crashes into a car park

A helicopter joy flight crashed into Dreamworld’s carpark in June 2009.

Incredibly, the four passengers and the pilot survived with relatively minor injuries.

An investigation later found the helicopter did not have sufficient fuel when it took off on the 20-minute joy flight.

The pilot was later praised for steering the helicopter into an empty area of the theme park’s car park.

Dreamworld has not run joy flights since the incident.

Roller-coaster stops twice in one day

The Green Lantern Coaster at Movie World was stopped twice in one day in January 2013.

Eight people spent about 70 minutes on the stalled ride, with the theme park operators blaming a minor wiring problem.

After resuming, a safety system cut power to the ride leaving another eight passengers stuck.

None of the passengers were injured and the ride opened the next day.

Wheel dislodges on roller-coaster

Thirteen people were stuck on the Green Lantern Coaster, six for about three hours, after a wheel dislodged in March of 2015

The six people were taken to Gold Coast Hospital in a stable condition.

Witness Caleb Rehua said he immediately noticed something unusual about the Movie World ride.

“When we got off all we heard was two big bolt things just fall down and then everyone went crazy,” he said.

“It was like a real movie. We all had to get off … the carriage was falling and then they stopped the ride straight away.”

Man nearly drowns on log ride

Emergency services said a man nearly drowned after he was thrown from the log ride at Dreamworld earlier this year.

He was helped out of the water and later taken to hospital with “facial lacerations”.

Roller-coaster stalls mid-ride

Several people had to be evacuated from a roller-coaster at nearby Sea World during the September school holiday season this year.

Sea World staff wearing harnesses climbed the ride to escort those trapped back to ground level.

Nobody was injured when the roller-coaster stalled mid-ride.
