"I feel beautiful when I'm feeling strong": blind women reflect on what beauty is to them.

We all have different ideas of what beauty is, and what makes us feel beautiful.

Often, these feelings are tied to what we observe when we look in the mirror. A new lipstick, for instance, or a fresh cut and colour can make us feel beautiful and in turn, happy — and this is perfectly valid.

However, the latest video in Dove’s Choose Beautiful campaign is a moving reminder that beauty is also not merely skin deep.

In the video, produced by Dove in Sweden, three visually impaired women — Ida, Naomi and Anna — reflect on how losing their vision led them to appreciate beauty in a different way. (Post continues after video.)

Although they’re critical of their appearance, worrying about their “flat chin” or weight fluctuations, the women explain that most of the time, feeling beautiful largely rides on their general wellbeing and emotions.

“I feel beautiful on the days when I feel like life is fun,” Anna says. Ida feels beautiful “when I’m energetic, when I’m feeling good, when I’m feeling strong.”

The final line, spoken by Naomi, really resonates: “It comes from within. If you radiate warmth, humility and love, then you’re beautiful to me.”

What makes you feel beautiful?
