One of the things I found most difficult about working in the conservatively dressed ranks of TV executive land was that I couldn’t wear denim. That was a tough blow because it’s a rare day when you will find me wearing anything else. Trends have come and gone and I have flirted with most of them but denim remains my True Love. I am very loyal to denim. From stonewash to acid wash, from flares to stovepipes and everything in between. I have owned them and I have worn them.
And I am not the only one. Denim is one of those fashion staples that has persevered through the ages.
Fast facts: Originally worn by Italian sailors from Genoa (hence the term “jeans”) in the 1500s and becoming popular with workers in the United State in the 1800s after Levi Strauss brought in “waist overalls” made from tough tent materials to miners in San Francisco’s gold rush. Movie stars began wearing denim in the 1950’s as a show of rebellion and us fashion rebels, have never looked back really.
It’s easy to dress up or down, it’s comfortable, it’s versatile and it comes in thousands of styles.
My latest infatuation with denim is heavily centred around boyfriend jeans, denim harem pants and denim nappies. Yes you read that right. I am happily passing along my denim infatuation to my son while he is still in nappies thanks to Huggies new range of Denim Design Nappies.
You may recall that I posted about Huggies denim nappies here previously, but that was before the nappies were widely available in Australia – and before I knew about the amazing work Huggies was doing with the Children’s Medical Research Institute’s (CMRI) Fundraising Campaign, “Jeans for Genes Day“.
