There is something absolutely essential missing from Donald Trump's White House stay.

You guys, I’ve figured it out.

I’ve figured out the exact reason why Donald Trump is…well is the way he is.

It’s a little something to do with the fact he doesn’t have a best friend. Of the four-legged kind, I mean.

WHAT?!

News has broken that US President Donald Trump could very well be the first President in 130 years to not bring a canine companion into the White House.

WHY, DONALD?!

Donald, do you not know that dogs enrich every single aspect of your life? That they're perfect for cuddling after a long, hard day in the office?

That they can't speak, so they can't spread FAKE NEWS about you all over the internet?

This doggo writes REAL NEWS only, Donald. Promise.

(And even if you're a cat person, Mr. Tump. I'm sure the same stands when it comes to a pet of the feline persuasion. I just...wouldn't know.)

It turns out Donald did have a Presidential Pooch all lined up and ready to go: he was rumoured to be adopting a Goldendoodle (CUTE) named Patton, who was being fostered by one of his good friends, Lois Pope.

But Lois decided that she loved Patton and wanted to keep him all to herself. Rude.

(But also, Lois, rescue dogs are the best so we totally understand where you're coming from).

The last President to not have a dog in the Oval Office (wait, are they allowed in there?) was William McKinley, and even he had several kittens, roosters and a pet parrot.

According to the Presidential Pet Museum, it's considered "unlucky" for a President not to have a four-legged friend by their side.

NO THANKS.

"The Presidents that did not have dogs in residence? Well, their terms didn’t always go smoothly," the museum's website reads.

But they do add that "President John F. Kennedy was known to keep many dogs, yet remains the youngest President to ever be assassinated"... so the jury is still out on this one.

We still advise you get yourself a doggo, though, Donald.
