Sorry. But Australian campaigns to stop domestic violence are ineffective, pussyfooting, and some I’d say are even misogynistic.
I’m a man, converted to the cause, haven’t touched anyone in anger ever except my brother and sister when we were kids, and sometimes when they take the last Tim Tam.
I see these attempts we’re making to stem the entrenched inequality experienced by women in our society, and I think they’re all but useless. They’re not good enough.
Case in point: what family-abusing man is put off his anger issues and routine beatings by nail polish? What does this even mean? I presume the idea is to create an identifiable community of men to activate some sort of peer pressure to not hit women or children.
Here’s an idea: keep the photo of Matt Cooper or Jarryd Hayne, but instead of the manicure, perhaps offer the phrase “If you beat your child you’re an imbecile and don’t come to my games”?
Feature Malcolm Turnbull in there with a “If you hit your wife you’re an imbecile and if you’re found guilty in court we’re suspending your right to vote”? Chuck the Australian Federal Police Commissioner in there for good measure with the quote “If you murder your ex-partner in breach of a restraining order you’re an imbecile and you’re going to prison, and then you won’t come out again”. Who are we protecting here?

So, regarding the author's request for names and links for men's groups spreading proactive positive and effective messages to men: Where are they? I can't find any. In fact, for a week or so, I've been net-searching for a men's peer support group for men subjected to domestic abuse, or a men's crowdfund campaign to raise money or goods for men in domestic stress, suffering elder abuse or such. Still, nope. So, where are the men's groups for men? Do the Men's Sheds do that stuff?
The author asks for ANY group, not just men's.
The one in three campaign is well known.
With a quick Google search I found a few support groups, both for male victims and male perpetrators of DV, though I admit they weren't plentiful.
I found several American crowd funding pages for men's shelters.
Ah, I thought he was after men's groups, (probably because I'd been looking for the nsw guys groups for male victims). Thanks Snorks. I'll give it another go.
52% of kids killed by are women. 27% more little boys get killed than girls.
Women who also kill 93% of male partners killed (25% of all partners killed in DV). 40% of total DV homicide victims are male. In most violent relationships where only one partner is violent, it's the woman (70% http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov....
Yet we're still calling all of this just 'mens violence' *ONLY*.
Of course it's going to be ineffective.
