Every now and then a hot blonde comes along and ruins my life. 

It's unfortunate and detrimental to the culture (women who love doe-eyed brunettes like Theo James and Dev Patel). But the microplastics in my body weasel their way into the ridges of my brain and whisper: that blonde man is a problem.

And I'm not talking about your natural blondes. I'm talking bleach, baby.

Last year it was Nicholas Hoult and a box of peroxide, taking platinum locks to new heights with this selfie that sent me into a blonde-induced psychosis. Not since Brian O'Connor in The Fast And The Furious had I felt such a thrill.

In 2026 the blonde du jour is Dean Di Laurentis from Off Campus .

Dean truly is a problem; the sluttiest diva on a team of hot hockey boys at Briar University.

He hooks up with every girl on campus, engages in fraternity shenanigans, and has an ego the size of a professional hockey rink. Which I don't really know anything about, but one could assume is quite large. Put simply, he is a f**kboy. And yet, we are endeared to him.

He's the boy everyone is talking about — and I was conned into obsessing over him by one Prime Video, who lured me in with three other brunettes and a sexy little plotline before saying "gotcha" and making me fall head over heels for Blondie McGee.

Why?

Because he said "respect" like the most absurd frat bro when his buddy, Garrett Graham, said he wanted to make sure Hannah Wells had an orgasm. Because he clapped the loudest when Allie Hayes performed at 'Drunk Shakespeare'. Because he didn't complete the assignment (if you know, you know).

In real life, Dean is played by a sweet brunette Canadian who was apparently so scared of his co-star Mika Abdalla (who plays Allie) he couldn't talk to her for weeks. Stephen Kalyn has charmed audiences with his outrageous press tour answers, his behind-the-scenes snaps, and his genuine love of the Off Campus fandom. He's a cherub.

But on-screen, he's a reformed playboy on the path to yearners anonymous — falling head over heels for the one girl he can't have. He's delivering surprisingly sweet romantic declarations with hope in his big blue eyes, only to see his dreams dashed. And isn't that one of the best romance tropes of all?

Throw in his peroxide blonde locks and a generation of women have been felled.

Perhaps the bleach transfers to the audience through cinematic osmosis and renders us all temporarily insane. Perhaps it's the implied whimsy of the age-old adage that blondes have more fun. He has fun and everyone knows it — #scandalous.

But one thing for sure, two things for certain, this crush has knocked me for six and I'm not the only one ashamed to admit she's fallen victim to blonde boy propaganda.

And I know I'm not the only one, because Miss Jennifer Lopez herself — cinematic icon of our modern times — just followed the entire cast of Off Campus on Instagram. And then she tweeted about the show. And then she made the Spotify video for her own song, On The Floor, a looped clip of Dean and Allie from the show.

That's culture. That's impact. That's god damn blonde hair.

While I can admit to loving Dean, I will continue to struggle against the power of bleach. To combat this, I've also developed a raging crush on John Logan (AKA Antonio Cipriano), who is bravely fighting on behalf of the doe-eyed brunette boy collective.
