If you have been watching season three of Netflix's America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, you'll know that, just like the previous years, there's a lot of drama this time around. 

But one controversy in particular has taken over the internet. 

For those, like myself, who have been watching from day dot, you already know that Florida native Reece Weaver was a fan favourite from the moment she stepped onto our screens.

With over two million social media followers and a dance style that literally leaves DCC leadership breathless, Reece and her sweet college-sweetheart romance with husband Will Allman have been the absolute emotional heartbeat of the entire show.

Which is why her sudden announcement at the end of the season that she was leaving the team sent the internet into an absolute tailspin. 

I'll admit, the pivot in season three was slightly jarring as a viewer. Reece was at the absolute top of her game, was a favourite of all the DCC leadership and seemed to be thriving as a veteran on the team. 

But then came the turning point in episode 7. Reece suffered a devastating ankle injury right before a major performance, and we watched her break down, confessing how lost she felt whenever she wasn't dancing. 

But, to our surprise, in that same episode, she made a massive decision. She gave her notice to the bosses and walked away from a uniform she easily could have worn for years. Who knew, going into this season, that this would be the last time we were going to see Reece as a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. I sure didn't.

Naturally, the internet did what the internet does, and immediately found a villain: her husband, Will. Because their relationship has been such a massive part of her arc, fans dissected every single frame of their interactions. 

While there were several moments throughout the season that looked to some fans like quiet opposition to her career, it was a comment after Reece was injured that really set off alarm bells for some viewers.

While Reece was nursing her ankle injury at home and feeling immense guilt for sitting out an important performance, Will admitted to feeling glad that she was sidelined.

"Selfishly, I'm glad that you're here," he said. 

On top of that, fans pointed out that he repeatedly mentioned how much he missed small-town Alabama and how many of their friends back home were already having kids.

Suddenly, the timeline was flooded with fans accusing him of pressuring her to quit. 

Now, in a recent interview, Reece and Will finally addressed the hate and how different their reality was. 

"It makes me frustrated, because that could not be more far from the truth," she told the Wall Street Journal . 

"He was so supportive, no matter what decision I made." 

She made it clear that strangers on the internet shouldn't presume to know what happens behind closed doors in their private conversations. Will, on the other hand, brushed off the criticism. 

"Reece is a bunch of people's favourites," he said. "Those people are going to find something else to blame if I wasn't there, so it doesn't really affect me a whole lot." 

Speaking about his own cooking videos, he admitted that his wife's success is even more important to him than his own. 

"I'd love to see it be successful," he said of his own project, "but I'd love to see my wife successful 10 times more." 

So, what is America's favourite cheerleader doing now that she's officially hung up her poms? 

Netflix might be losing its most bankable reality star, but Reece is exploring some exciting post-DCC projects. In her interview with The Wall Street Journal, Reece revealed that she is writing a book and hopes to perform on stage again. 

But despite all her exciting plans, Reece isn't rushing into anything. Right now, she's open to whatever opportunities come her way. 

"I still want to continue to dance and just explore what life has to offer," she told eNews. "I think my entire life has been, 'Okay, what's next? How can I continue?' I'm still thinking that today, but I feel like for the first time in my life, I'm really thinking about, 'Okay, what really is next?'"

"That's exciting. You're just jumping into the unknown. Yes, not everything has to be permanent. That's the learning process of it all. I'm going to continue to dance, watch me."
