I've learnt a lot working in beauty for nearly a decade. When it comes to moisturisers, I know two things to be true:

First, it might just be the most underrated step in your skincare routine. And secondly, you don't need to spend a lot of money to find a good one.

Enter, the Daily Skincare Double Ceramide Miracle Night Cream; a $30 'supermarket dupe' for your expensive night cream.

I first came across this product when my dear colleague Erin Docherty wrote this review, comparing it to a $700 La Mer moisturiser.

I was intrigued by the potential dupe-ness of it all, but what really convinced me to try this product was that it actually doesn't look like a 'dupe' of anything at all.

How would a $30 night cream compare to similar products with more expensive price tags?

I've been trialling Daily Skincare Double Ceramide Miracle Night Cream all summer. Read on for my thoughts.

Here's what you need to know:

• This rich, restorative overnight formula promises to replenish your barrier and boost elasticity for skin that looks smoother, bouncier, and beautifully refreshed when you wake up.

• The formula contains clinically-proven ingredients like sodium hyaluronate for deep hydration, shea butter for long-lasting moisture, ceramides to support your skin barrier, jojoba seed oil to nourish and soften, and antioxidant-rich Tasmanian kelp extract.

• Available at Woolworths and Priceline across Australia, and in New Zealand online and at Life Pharmacy, The Warehouse and selected New World supermarkets, it's the brand's best‑selling product (although I'm also eyeing off the Micro-collagen Repair Lip Balm and Supercalm Cleanser).

• Founded by Sophia Mantell, a Kiwi-born, Sydney-based founder who wanted to formulate products with clinically proven ingredients and science-backed formulas comparable to prestige brands, but at supermarket prices.

A bit about my skin for context; I have dry skin prone to the occasional hormonal breakout and perioral dermatitis flare-up.

My main skin concerns are sensitivity and the first signs of ageing, and I'm focused on a minimal skincare routine that helps keep my skin looking hydrated, plump and luminous.

The first thing I noticed about this product is how luscious this formula is, despite the product's lightweight packaging (it kind of feels like the tub should be empty??).

I love how rich and decadent the cream texture feels on the skin — it's silky and substantial enough to leave dry skin types feeling comforted, yet somehow without being too heavy for normal to combination skin types.

Being a true 'night cream' style texture formulated to offer that overnight hydration, it's thicker than a day-time moisturiser (although I would definitely use this in the morning during winter!).

The consistency transforms from thick cream to silky lotion as you massage it into the skin. It takes a second to absorb and dry down, but once you're done, the result feels like slipping into bed with fresh pyjamas and clean sheets.

Although the ingredients list looked perfect for targeting my skin concerns, the sensitive skin side of me was slightly worried about the scent.

It took me a while to figure out what it reminded me of, and then it clicked; this moisturiser smells a lot like La Mer! It has a powder fresh fragrance synonymous with luxury skincare — it doesn't linger though.

Although the packaging feels more accessible with its clean, minimalist design, a blind trial of the product inside the tub would have me mistaking it for a more luxe, expensive cream.

I loved how supported and hydrated my skin felt, both immediately after application, but also the next morning.

I woke up with skin that looked fresh and plump, and felt healthy and hydrated. No tightness or random dry patches here.

Final verdict: If you're looking to save on your skincare routine, I always recommend starting with your moisturiser — and you really can't beat this one.
