A confronting image showing a model  Photoshopped to bear a painful-looking, swollen black eye has gone viral.

The image — accompanied by the slogan “get your game face on! — is going viral on Twitter, accompanied by the hashtag #GoodellMustGo. It’s a Photoshopped version of a Covergirl ad from a campaign encouraging women to get behind NFL. Each ad includes make-up in the team colours.

But this version is being circulated in protest against NFL Commissioner  Roger Goodell, who has been criticised over his handling of domestic violence cases — most recently, over his response to leaked footage of an altercation between Baltimore Ravens star Ray Rice and his wife Janay in a casino lift.

previously reported, Rice was finally indefinitely suspended from playing last week after a video of him punching his wife emerged — but he was originally only suspended for two games following the release of CCTV footage from outside the lift, which showed him dragging his then-fiance’s unresponsive body out of the lift after the attack.

Commissioner Goodell did announce a stricter new domestic violence policy for NFL employees last month – but did not revisit Rice’s suspension until outrage erupted over the most recent video last week.

The release of the footage has also raised questions over how much Goodell knew about Rice’s attack on his wife: while the Commissioner claimed he hadn’t seen the Rice video until TMZ leaked the video showing Rice punching his wife last week, 

The Associated Press has suggested the video was actually sent to the NFL in April.
