Cate Blanchett admits she's only learnt how to compromise since having kids.

And gives some advice to her 20-year-old self.

Cate Blanchett is a mother-of-four who just welcomed her adopted daughter, Edith Vivian Patricia Upton, into the family.

She recently spoke to Vogue about how the children have “confronted her with all her failures.” Oh dear.

“Children certainly teach one about compromise. I think before having children the idea of compromise rubbed shoulders with weakness or deception in some way.

“Children are spirited, passionate, political, demanding. They are also heartbreaking. They constantly extend parents and so parents are constantly confronted with failures, don’t you think?"

Yes. We do think. Cate seems pretty positive about what is quite a revelation.

“I’d rather presently live life this way than not,” she said.

And what would she tell herself now that she didn't know waaaaaay back when?

“Listen: Don’t wear tie-dye. Ever.”

Sound advice.
