Surprise - and congratulations! Cate Blanchett welcomed a new baby.

Wonderful news for Australia’s best loved actress.

In the celebrity world where a celebrity’s every move is watched by paparazzi and skilled go-pro users, a baby is rarely a genuine surprise. But that’s exactly what’s happened.

One of Australia’s most celebrated actresses Cate Blanchett, 45, has welcomed a new addition to her family.

This morning, Cate’s publicist confirmed the new arrival and the baby’s name: “The Upton family have adopted a baby girl.  Her name is Edith Vivian Patricia Upton.”

Cate Blanchett and husband Andrew Upton have welcomed a new baby into their family.

According to exclusive reports in the Australian Women’s Weekly, Blanchett has been arriving to collect her sons from primary school in Sydney this week cuddling a newborn baby girl.

The Cinderella star has also been spotted at Sydney airport with her new daughter.

Actor and adoption advocate, Deborah Lee Furness has welcomed the new addition to the Blanchett-Upton clan: “Congratulations to Cate, Andrew and the boys on the news of their baby daughter and sister Vivienne. We wish them all the best and much love for their new life together.”
