Why your cat food may need a rethink.

My cat Millie was a rescue kitten. I found her online and drove my family to the vet, where we chose her out of four cat siblings that had been found abandoned a few days before.

We chose Millie because she was so beautiful, even then, with her white fur and black patches, delicate features and gorgeous little ‘meow’.

What a lucky little kitten, having us choose her to join our family.

I imagined countless nights in front of the television after the kids had gone to bed. Millie would be fast asleep on my lap and I’d stroke her as I watched my favourite shows.

Sadly for us, Millie never lost the jitteriness that began when she was a forgotten and probably abused little kitten. My poor little Millie.

We love her so much, but we have grown used to letting her set the temperature of our relationships with her. When she walks quietly into our rooms at night and jumps up on the end of our beds we feel truly special.

She doesn’t just hand out affection like most cats.

After her difficult start I just want her to have an incredible life, and that’s why I took out pet insurance straight away.

I’ve been letting her down, though, when it comes to food.

I normally buy whatever is on special and flit between wet and dry food inconsistently. A few times I’ve run out of cat food altogether and tried to feed her human food like tuna and mashed potatoes: she was not impressed.

Now Millie is trying out truly exceptional cat food in the form of PURINA ONE. She’s on the PURINA ONE 21 Day Program after which she will not only be an incredibly lucky, loved cat but could appear to be a healthier one too.

It took a week or so to transition her onto PURINA ONE, which is a dry food. She does love her dry food but for some reason I mostly fed her wet food, forgetting to stir in a bit of dry to keep her teeth healthy. This time I’d have to mix in a bit of PURINA ONE and then gradually reduce the wet food.

It went well. She took to PURINA ONE straight away and ate it with as much gusto as she’s always eaten her wet food. Now she’s fed exclusively on PURINA ONE.

PURINA ONE is a premium nutritional product for cats, so I’m also looking forward to being able to see her skin health improve, her eyes brighten and her coat to be nice and shiny. I want to make sure she has plenty of energy to play with her cat-friends, and it would also be great to see an increase in her energy and vitality at home.

She used to play with us a little when she was a kitten and one morning I woke up to see my wool strewn all over the lounge room floor. Clearly she’d had a lot of fun while we slept, but I’d love for her to be comfortable enough to do that in front of us as well.

My Millie, my fur baby, is treasured by the whole family. She deserves quality food, and as much thought put into her meals as we would put into those of our children.
