Carrie Bickmore's lipstick caused a stir on The Project last night. Here's where to find it.

It’s no secret The Project viewers take a keen interest in what host Carrie Bickmore wears on the show.

Case in point? There’s even an Instagram account dedicated to charting all of her outfits.

But last night it was her lipstick colour choice that got everyone talking.

The 36 year old wore a dark-almost-black lipstick in place of her usual pinks and neutrals.

Plenty of viewers took to The Project‘s social media to comment.

“Love the lip colour Carrie,” wrote bramblecreative, while desireemakeup added “Love the lippy!”.

Others weren't quite so impressed - or at least not used to seeing such a dramatic colour on the host. While dark lipstick has been a huge beauty trend of late, it can certainly be an intimidating colour to try.

Bickmore's bold choice was a perfect lesson in how to do it right.

According to her makeup artist Eve Gunson, the colour of choice was MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour, $46, in High Drama, a deep, dark plum.

It's a pigmented colour with a liquid-suede finish - perfect for matte lovers.

"Carrie is always up to try something new and have a play with new makeup trends," she told Mamamia.

"This was a brand new colour from Mac that we hadn't tried before and bold deep berry and red wine inspired lips are very on trend right now." (Post continues after gallery.)

Gunson recommends exfoliating your lips before applying (try Frank Body Lip Scrub, $10.95) a dark colour for the best look.

"Use a lip primer for longevity and line your lips with a liner in a similar colour first to create the perfect shape," she says.
