If you've been missing a story packed with complicated friendships, secrets, and a group of women whose lives are anything but simple, there's very good news: this world is coming back.

Nearly a decade after the novel Big Little Lies first became a global phenomenon, Liane Moriarty has confirmed she's returning to the story with a brand new novel, Big Little Truths.

And while details have been drip-fed, one thing is clear — this isn't just a continuation, it's a new chapter with a very different perspective.

When will Big Little Truths be released?

The new novel is coming, and soon. It's set for release in August 2026.

What is Big Little Truths about?

It's true, the gang is back.

Celeste, Madeline, Jane, Bonnie and Renata will all return, but this time, the spotlight shifts in a pretty major way.

The story jumps forward ten years and centres on their kids — think Ziggy, Amabella and Chloe — who are now teenagers dealing with high school, friendships and (because this is Big Little Lies) something much darker bubbling underneath.

The plot kicks off with a pretty classic Moriarty hook: a disturbing discovery at the school that pulls both the teens and their parents into another messy, all-consuming mystery.

The issue at hand? A severed finger was sent to the school principal's office. The kids act as a kind of narrator, being interviewed about what happened, according to an interview with Moriarty on USA Today .

"Their principal's office receives a severed finger in the mail," Moriarty told the publication of the plot. "In the first book, the parents at the school, they provide the Greek chorus explaining the action and what happened.

"In this book, the teenagers − the kids − are the Greek chorus. So they're being interviewed about what happened. The first thing that happens is they say, 'Well, it all began at Madeline's 50th birthday.' "

So while the perspective is new, the chaos feels very familiar.

Where is Big Little Truths set?

There are a few other key differences, too.

Unlike the TV adaptation, the book remains set in Australia, and some details from the original novel — including characters who didn't make it onto screen — will play a bigger role this time around.

Moriarty has also hinted that Renata will have an even stronger presence (which, frankly, feels correct).

"It's all Laura Dern's fault because she was so amazing as Renata, it was impossible for me to not give her a bigger role also in this book," Moriarty told USA Today. "You couldn't put Renata in a corner."

Is Big Little Truths going to be made into a TV show?

As for what this means for the TV world? Good things.

A third season of the Big Little Lies has been quietly in development, and Big Little Truths is expected to serve as its source material, USA Today reports — although it'll likely still be adapted in the show's Californian setting.
