The five Netflix movies you must watch before Eurovision.

Pull on the sequins, move directly to the nearest karaoke set and get ready to dance because the biggest TV event of the year is here and that’s a cause for celebration.

We’re talking about Eurovision, the televised singing competition that will feature forty-three countries battling it out for glory.

The 2018 Eurovision Song Contest is set to take place from Tuesday May 8 through to Saturday May 12.

This year, the competition will take place for the first time in Portugal following the country’s first victory at the 2017 contest in Kiev, Ukraine.

Before you get set to cheer on Australia’s entrant in the 2018 competition, the fierce Jessica Mauboy, here are the five Netflix movies you must watch first to get you in the mood.

The Sapphires 

If you watch one movie on this list, make it this one, because it stars our Eurovision entrant Jessica Mauboy is a leading role.

Set in 1968, the movie follows four young, talented Australian Aboriginal girls learn who learn about love, friendship and war as their all girl group The Sapphires travels to Vietnam to entertain the US troops.

Dreamgirls

Starring the one and only Beyonce, Dreamgirls  is a musical masterpiece. The plot is basically this – tensions arise for 1960s girl group the Dreams when manager Curtis demotes the talented Effie, replacing her with the more marketable Deena.

Eurovision will be broadcast live and in primetime exclusively on SBS from 9 to 13 May.
