'I'm obsessed with murder mysteries. Here are the 8 best mystery series of 2022.'

My favourite TV genre is thriller/mysteries.

I love them all.

Big prestige TV series like Mare of Easttown and Big Little Lies. Dirty little thrillers like Behind Her Eyes and The Sinner. British, Scottish, Irish, Welsh thrillers? Can't get enough of them.

All I need to know is that someone has been murdered, and the killer is the person you'd least suspect, or someone has lost their memory and has to piece back together the moments leading up to some kind of traumatic event and I'm hooked!

To make your summer holiday a little more... murder-y, I've rounded up my favourite new mystery series of 2022. (P.S. if you like to see my weekly recommendations, follow me on Instagram).

Here are the best murder mysteries of 2022:

The White Lotus (season two)

When The White Lotus returned for its second season in 2022, the cocktails were even more potent, the one-liners even zingier, the simmering tension reached a delicious fever pitch.

Set in Sicily, season two follows several groups of American tourists staying at a beachside resort. In the first scene, trophy wife Daphne (Meghann Faye) stumbles upon a body in the ocean.

For the next seven episodes, we try to find out who meets their watery end as the cocktails get guzzled and the sexual tension reaches a crescendo.

This season is all about sex and power and, of course, a dash of murder.

Bad Sisters

Bad Sisters is a murder mystery that will make you root for the murderer.

This wickedly funny series was written by and stars Sharon Horgan, one half of the hilarious Catastrophe

The 10-part series follows the story of the five Garvey sisters. There's Eva (Horgan), the eldest who took on the maternal role after their parents died. Ursula, a nurse and sensible mum-of-three, who also happens to be having an affair with her photography teacher. Fierce middle child Bibi (Sarah Greene), and aimless baby of the family Becka (Eve Hewson). And then there's Grace, the only sister who seems to be mourning the premature death of her husband John Paul (Claes Bang).

When the series flashes back six months, we find out why.

Only Murders In The Building (season two)

At the end of season one, Only Murders In The Building's unlikely detectives actually solved the murder of Tim Kono. That was a genuine surprise.

Season two kicks off where season one left us, following the murder of the Arconia's Board President Bunny Folger.

Our trio - Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) - race to unmask the killer, after being publicly implicated in the crime. Things are complicated by the fact that all their neighbours think they're guilty, and uh, there's also a new, competing true crime podcast to contend with.

If you love your murder mysteries mixed with a dash of clever comedy, you need to watch Only Murders immediately.

Karen Pirie

Adapted from Val McDermid's series of books, this Scottish thriller follows young DS Karen Pirie (Lauren Lyle). After a true crime podcast about the unsolved murder of a 19-year-old girl in 1996 goes viral, Pirie is assigned to lead the re-investigation into the case.

In 1996, three local university students found Rosie Duff bleeding to death in a cemetery after a night out. While they were the prime suspects, no one was ever charged in relation to Duff's murder.

Now in their 40s, the three former friends find themselves back under suspicion.

Chloe

Chloe is one of the best thrillers to come out of Britain in recent years.

The six-part series follows the story of Becky, a mousy woman who works in a temp job and still lives at home with her mother. Becky spends her evenings pouring over the Instagram account of a woman named Chloe, who is married to a local council member.

When Chloe dies under suspicious circumstances, Becky infiltrates her friendship circle to find out what really happened to her.

Chloe is a captivating thriller about female friendship, the lies we tell ourselves and the ties that bind us.

The Resort

Stan's new series The Resort is The White Lotus meets Only Murders in the Building.

The eight-part comedic thriller follows millennial married couple Emma and Noah, played by How I Met Your Mother's Cristin Milioti and The Good Place's William Jackson Harper. Emma and Noah are on their 10-year anniversary trip when they stumble on an old mobile phone, which leads them to the unsolved disappearance of two young guests from a nearby resort 15 years earlier.

The pair throw themselves into solving the disappearance in an attempt to ignore their own marital issues.

Think murder mystery with a side of relationship angst.

Shining Girls

Apple TV Plus' Shining Girls is based on Lauren Beukes' bestselling book of the same name.

It's a time-travelling murder mystery (yes, you read that correctly) starring Elisabeth Moss as Kirby Mazrachi, a newspaper archivist, whose dreams of becoming a journalist are put on hold after she survives a brutal attack while she's out walking her dog one night.

When another local woman is murdered, Kirby works with an investigative journalist at her newspaper and together they try to track down an elusive serial killer who seems to defy the normal laws of time.

It's a nail-biting intense thriller and a study into the impact of trauma.

The Afterparty

The Afterparty is just a lot of fun.

It's like Bridesmaids meets an Agatha Christie novel.

The series follows a group of former high school friends who come together for their 15 year high school reunion. When someone dies at the reunion afterparty, everyone else immediately becomes a suspect.

Each episode is told from the perspective of one character/suspect as they tell their own version of events to a rogue detective (Tiffany Haddish) who is trying to crack the case before it's taken off her.

The cast includes Dave Franco, Ilana Glazer, Ben Schwartz, Ike Barinholtz, Zoë Chao, and Sam Richardson.

The Afterparty is streaming on Apple TV Plus.
