The weekend is so close I can sniff it… and now that we are inching that bit closer to Christmas it smells good.  This week we rolled out the first Mamamia Gift Guide on books. We also talked about God, civil unions and gave you a sneak peek at Mamamia 3.0.

In the ACP foyer

I’ll start.

BEST: I went into ACP (magazine central) this week to do a shoot for an upcoming promotion that will appear in some ACP magazines. Walking into the building that was my home every day for 15 years was a trip. I haven’t been there in years and gosh balls has it changed. Very fancy shmancy these days. When I was there it was all masking tape holding down the carpet and creaky lifts. Now it’s a glossy foyer full of wide-eyed girls waiting to be collected for work experience and a modern photographic studio where we did our shoot. I got to work with some people I haven’t seen in a decade and had the most lovely morning. I usually hate shoots but this was a pleasure.

WORST: It took 4 hours to take 2 shots. This isn’t unusual. It’s just how shoots go. They take a loooooong time to get started what with all the faffing around with hair and make-up and lighting and getting everything perfectly right. Modelling is exhausting. Mostly because it’s so boring. I also got an inclination of how being a model must mess with your head. As I stood there on the set with everyone gathered around the monitor looking at the photos and suggesting I change outfits because “it wasn’t flattering”, I had a massive rush of insecurity. At that moment nothing mattered except how I looked. And a bunch of professionals thought I didn’t look right. They weren’t wrong and they were utterly lovely in every way but man, if that happened to you every day, several times a day, I cannot imagine how you would not be in the foetal position rocking quietly in a corner…..Remember that next time you wish you looked like Miranda Kerr who, I noticed was the subject of an article in last weekend’s papers heralding the new ‘face’ of David Jones for their Autumn/Winter shows early next year. ‘Look out Miranda,’ it said. ‘Nicole Trunfio is taller, thinner and younger than you.” Ugh.
