This news is bacon my day.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that bacon is the most delicious food group that has, and will ever, exist.

Until now.

In news that I’m fairly sure is currently being trumpeted as “game-changing” and “nobel-prize winning” by the science community, a new strain of seaweed that is delicious, nutritious, and has a “strong bacon flavour” has been created.

According to Oregen State University, Scientists at Hatfield Marine Science Center have “created and patented a new strain of dulse (seaweed) – one (they’ve) been growing for the past 15 years.”

The pioneer behind the revolutionary invention, Chris Langdon said that the bacon tasting seaweed has many minerals, vitamins and antioxidants, as well as “16 percent protein in dry weight”. I don’t know what this means, but I do know that these healthy sounding words have me sold.

Apparently, Langdon did not see the value in this product before a clever faculty member at OSU, Chuck Toombs, reminded him that everyone in the world loves bacon and he should probably take this project a little more seriously.

Toombs’ explained that he persuaded Langdon of the seaweed’s worth because “Dulse is a super-food, with twice the nutritional value of kale,” which we’re pretty sure is code for “bacon is delicious, yum, yum, yum, bacon.”

As there is no mention of when we will receive this wonder-food, I can only suggest eating sushi and bacon simultaneously in order to understand what it tastes like in the meantime.

This is disappointing for everyone, but not as disappointing as kale will be feeling when this gets rolled out.

As an alternative to this, try having a look through this bacon gallery.
