Baby starves to death after her parents both overdose on heroin.

A five-month-old girl has starved to death over several days after her parents fatally overdosed on heroin.

The bodies of Summer Chambers, 27-year-old Jason Chambers and 19-year-old Chelsea Cardaro, were found at their home in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, by a family friend last Thursday.

The couple are believed to have died within minutes of each other a week prior, while the little girl survived for up to four days before ultimately succumbing to dehydration and starvation, reports The Tribute Democrat.

James Grant, the friend who discovered the tragedy, told local station WJAC-TV that he broke through the couple's window after becoming concerned that no one had heard from them for several days.

"It was hard going in there and being the one to see them like that. It still doesn't kind of seem real," he said.

Grant found Summer in her bassinet, Jason in the living room and Chelsea in an upstairs bathroom.

"I knew there was problems, I just didn't expect it to hit this quick, and to end this way. At most, I though some legal trouble, but they didn't deserve to die."

Local authorities noted that there was prior history of drug abuse documented at the couple's home.

Police were called to the address in November after Jason suffered an overdose, leading to an investigation from child protection officers, Johnstown police Capt. Chad Miller told local media.

“They checked out the house, and it was appropriate to a child living there," he said. "There was plenty of food and the child seemed well taken care of.”

A welfare check was conducted on December 7.
