.

Is there anyone not on Facebook? I’ve been struggling a bit to separate it from work  – it’s been a lot of years since I had a personal page. Still, Mamamia on Facebook is growing daily (come be our friend HERE WHY DON’T YOU)* and it seems like everyone who’s on it, is increasing the amount of time they spend on it.

Sound like you? Someone you know?

*Seriously, Mamamia’s Facebook page numbers go up daily ( join here – it’s fun and you get to hang out with your mates and see their actual faces) and there are sometimes as many comments on Facebook as there are here on the site.

Last week Mark Zuckerberg was named Time Person of the year  “For connecting more than half a billion people and mapping the social relations among them, for creating a new system of exchanging information and for changing how we live our lives”

And whether we accept it or not Mark Zuckerberg has changed the way that we communicate.  Even email is becoming redundant as we communicate by status updates, share photos and milestones on Facebook, shop through retailers Facebook portals and navigate our social lives online.

While some people were all, “Social networking? Pah! Won’t last…” – it seems that Facebook is not going away, in fact it is getting bigger and sucking up everything in its path.

According to Facebook statistics

More than 500 million active users50% of our active users log on to Facebook in any given dayAverage user has 130 friendsPeople spend over 700 billion minutes per month on Facebook

There are over 900 million objects that people interact with (pages, groups, events and community pages)Average user is connected to 80 community pages, groups and eventsAverage user creates 90 pieces of content each monthMore than 30 billion pieces of content (web links, news stories, blog posts, notes, photo albums, etc.) shared each month.

Is your relationship with Facebook showing any signs of waning or is it just ramping up? Are you using it more or less than you were last year?

And if you aren’t yet on Facebook what is stopping you from joining?
