IN PICTURES: Feeling inspired by Amal's Amazing Wedding Pants? So are we.

By NICKY CHAMP

I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin’s wedding took place this weekend in Venice, Italy.

Of course, I’m being sarcastic, because I’m guessing your news feed has also been cluttered with images of the stunning designer frocks worn by Amal too. Not that I’m complaining, it’s been a nice departure from the particularly gruesome news cycle to stop and look at gorgeous outfit after gorgeous outfit over the last few days. I kind of don’t want it to stop. Until we can drool over the real, actual WEDDING DRESS (coming soon to a magazine cover near you), let’s have a closer look at what she wore during her four-day wedding to George Clooney.

1) Arrival – Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2013 black and white striped dress.

If ever there was a dress that summed up the Italian Riveria, it’s this one. A Dolce & Gabbana (note the Italian designer) black and white striped dress from their 2013 Spring collection. Olivia Wilde wore this dress to a movie premiere back in March 2013, but who cares? The bow-front perforated slingbacks, the hat box, the oversized sunglasses. Alamuddin looks like a modern day Audrey Hepburn-Penelope Cruz hybrid

2) Rehearsal Dinner – Alexander McQueen Resort 2011 red gown.

The concept of a rehearsal dinner is kind of lost to me, as I’ve never been to one and much prefer it when weddings don’t run exactly to plan – that’s when the most fun happens. Alas, if you are a celebrity with wads of cash, why not extend your wedding festival to contain as many occasions to dress up as possible? Here Amal wore an Alexander McQueen Resort 2011 red gown with a black brush-stroke print and dare I say it? mullet hemline. Like the first outfit, Amal isn’t the first celebrity to don the dress, Michelle Obama wore this in 2011 (but with a full skirt).

3) Post-Wedding Brunch – Giambattista Valli Spring 2014 Couture dress.

This embroidered floral and lace dress elicited gasps from the Mamamia editorial team yesterday. I know it’s not everyone’s favourite look, but wow, it had impact. It was a Giambattista Valli (note another Italian designer) Spring 2014 Couture dress, and wore it paired with the same heels that were used on the runway. Just like Pippa Middleton’s defining bum moment of 2011, this is the exact moment the world noticed Amal’s legs, her very excellent legs.

And just when we thought it couldn’t get anymore stylish, this happened…

4 ) She married George Clooney in a civil ceremony in Venice, wearing this:

Wedding pants. WEDDING PANTS!

I mean, COME ON. This woman is perfection. You don’t expect to see Amal marrying George in a crisp tailored suit, but it just makes perfect sense. Not since Bianca Jagger at her St Tropez wedding to Mick Jagger in 1971, has a floppy hat looked so good. Her cream trouser suit and matching, white-brimmed hat were both by British designer Stella McCartney.

Are you developing a massive style crush yet? I’m sitting somewhere in between jealousy and awe. It’s making me want to do my wedding all over again, but with more outfits. I also must immediately buy a white, wide brimmed hat.

Amul’s unusual wedding outfit, got us thinking about unconventional and unique wedding outfits that broke with tradition. You may remember Olivia Palermo’s recent cardigan, skirt and blue heels ensemble, and Keira Knightley choosing to get hitched in a blush-coloured short frock, which she repeatedly wears to movie premieres and events.
