The ‘80s. What a glorious heaving mess of fluoro, fads and freaky fashions.
Yet such is the cycle that is fashion and fads, everything that was once old is now new again. Unfortunately, that means that a very active minority are quite intent on bringing back this kind of tragic 80s wear:
As groundbreaking as Jenny Kee was at the time, this knitwear has had it's day. And that day was in 1985.
The thought of such a revival gave me great cause for concern and severe flashbacks.
And look sure, there is a time and place for Ken Done knitwear but that time and place is in 1988 and at a duty free store.
Don't get me wrong, the '80s was a glorious decade, giving birth to some of the best pop culture, movie and gadgets in history (John Hughes movies, The A-Team, Scratch n Sniff stickers, Pac Man, Hypercolour T-shirts and Cyndi Lauper, the list goes on). But the time also brought with it some very questionable fads and fashions that let’s face it, should NEVER see the light of day again.
So in the spirit of good taste and world peace, let’s just make a definitive list of all the things from the ‘80s that should never ever be allowed to make a comeback. Let's get started.
Defying the laws of gravity and often requiring a full can of 'Final Net' hairspray, the poodle perm was a popular choice for the '80s fashionista
Jane Fonda started it. I'm going to finish it
Dear God, I don't know where to look.
More like a gourmet guide to excess and unnecessary body hair
5. High shorts.
That cameltoe cannot be unseen
6. MC Hammer Parachute Pants
The question still remains. Why?
7. Acid Wash
I think this one speaks for itself
8. The spiral perm
Different to the poodle and inspired by Kylie Minogue, the spiral perm was coveted by every female aged 13-30. To this day, Kylie is the only one who managed to pull it off.
9. Fluorescent everything
This actually happened. Help me make sure this never happens again by sharing this post.
10. Scrunchies and side ponytails
Scrunchies can still be found in questionable departments stores. It's when we start to see them in side ponytails again that we need to worry.
I'm sure this list is just the tip of the '80s iceberg of things that need to be laid to rest. Feel free to add your own suggestions.
