The bizarre way celebrities are honouring 4th of July.

The 4th of July is perhaps the most significant day in the United States calendar – a federal holiday to commemorate the Declaration of Independence, and in turn, the history, culture and traditions of the USA.

All over the country there are fireworks displays, concerts, political speeches, ceremonies, parades and barbecues. People wear red, white and blue, and in the last few years, we’ve seen celebrities like Taylor Swift host iconic parties to celebrate all things American.

But this year, there’s a noticeable new trend.

Independence, yes. But more specifically, independence from clothing.

Behold, model and actress Alessandra Ambrosio:

Ambrosio’s followers were quick to weigh in on the image, with one fan commenting, “Nothing more patriotic than this,” while another wrote, “This is completely inappropriate. What a disgrace to the American Flag”.

Similarly, Paris Hilton, Rachel Bilson, and Nicki Minaj posted photos in bikinis and/or underwear featuring the American flag or its colours.

Kendall Jenner’s tribute was slightly further removed, sharing a photo of herself in sheer underwear, with a caption of the American flag.

Her older half-sister, Khloe Kardashian, seemed to see the humour in the trend, writing “so patriotic” in the comments.

We're not quite sure what being partially/entirely naked has to do with 4th of July, but somehow, we don't think that's the point. At all.
