pregnancy

There's a beautiful story behind this couple's hilarious pregnancy announcement.

In 2017, when it’s rare for a couple to start a joint bank account without creating an elaborate social media post about it, Todd Krieg and Amanda Diesen’s pregnancy announcement is beautifully blunt.

The couple, based in Ohio, shared a photo of themselves on Instagram, smiling in front of a brick wall.

Diesen is holding an ultrasound image, while Krieg, who is in a wheelchair, gives a thumbs up.

Some cheeky chalk behind them reads: “It still works!”

Professional motorcross rider, Krieg, 23, became a paraplegic in 2014 after crashing his dirt bike.

He met – and fell for – Diesen while he was recovering from his accident in a renowned Californian rehabilitation facility, Project Walk, where she was a therapist.

MMOL discuss the dreaded question…

“I had stalked him on Instagram before I met him. My co-workers said, ‘Oh, he’s a really cool kid, and he races dirt bikes.’ And I was thinking ‘Oh my gosh, I don’t want to work with him. This is going to be really awkward,’” she told The Chronicle.

And yet, despite her nerves, she found herself making excuses to spend time with him.

“I’d go hang out and try to be funny and witty or cute, trying to get him to notice me. Obviously, it worked really well.”

They began dating in January 2016 and when Kreig moved home to Ohio,  Diesen followed soon after.

When she fell pregnant in December, it was completely by accident; they weren’t engaged and hadn’t even moved in together yet.

Krieg is paralysed from the chest down and had been told he would never be able to conceive naturally.

“After we thought about it, we said, ‘We are ready.’ This is a miracle it even happened, so this is going to be a good thing for us,” he told The Chronicle.

On Valentine’s Day they discovered the baby, which is due on August 6, is going to be a boy.

They shared the news on Instagram, of course.

Oh, and they also got engaged last month…

“We are super excited. We can’t wait for this baby,” Krieg said.

We can’t wait for the birth announcement.
