Nobody panic. It looks like Instagram's big change is more likely a big trick.

Today is the day that Instagram switches to its new personalised algorithm and it’s going to change your entire life what your feed looks like.

Well, according to the most esteemed members of Instagram your entire life is changing today.

Yep, we think it’s happening today. Maybe it’s happening today. Maaaaayyyybeeeee.

Ok, maybe not.

Look –  the truth is nobody really knows what on earth is going on.

If you’re a little late to the party, Instagram has decided to follow in the footsteps of Facebook and Twitter.

The app will move away from the chronological organisation of posts and instead hero photos based on a user’s friends, interests and other strictly-very-top-secret data.

It’s all very high tech and fancy and the people seem to hate it.

Remember when people FREAKED OUT about Facebook changing? It’s kinda like that…

In a blogpost explaining the new algorithm, the company said, “The order of photos and videos in your feed will be based on the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting and the timeliness of the post.”

They continued, “If your favorite musician shares a video from last night’s concert, it will be waiting for you when you wake up, no matter how many accounts you follow or what time zone you live in.”

Gotcha, Instagram.

But while some are hyperventilating and say the change is imminent, the holy Insta creators say the change will not occur all-at-once, but gradually over a few months instead.

SO – who should we listen to?! Is this even a big deal?! Will your life change irreparably?!

According to many many instagrammers, it’s happening, and it’s happening now.

Understandably, there is widespread panic about who is going to look at all of their highly filtered and face-tuned genuine and candid images if the posts no longer appear in chronological order?

The answer is no one.

Which is why they’ve taken to Instagram in droves to beg you to do one thing.

TURN ON NOTIFICATIONS, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

That is, except for Fitzy and Wippa who are mindful of the incessant beeping from your phone that this will cause. How thoughtful.

The theory goes that to avoid certain Insta-doom all you have to do is hit the three dots at the top right hand corner of the profile to see the option.

Whenever you ‘turn on notifications’ for a user, your phone will notify you every time that user uploads a post.

But it might not actually change anything after all. Not today anyway.

What are your thoughts on the proposed changes to Instagram?
