Serena Williams' waist heavily photoshopped in new shoot.

Serena Williams has won 21 Grand Slams to date so making People magazine’s 2016 Most Beautiful list probably isn’t a huge deal for the tennis star.

Regardless the world number one was proud enough of her latest accolade to post about it on her Instagram account (I mean you would, wouldn’t you?).

Unfortunately, there was something missing from the shot People served up, namely a big chunk of Williams’ waist.

"Gorgeous and amazing but that Photoshop is awful," one user wrote. "Your body is amazing, why manipulate it?"

"This looks retouched," another agreed. "You're beautiful without that help and it's disappointing if this has happened."

In just under two hours, the photo had scored nearly 600 comments as more and more fans chimed in with commentary on the overzealous Photoshop job.

Some commented on an apparent bend in the bar behind Williams' back, while others fired off backhanded compliments at the 36-year-old.

"She's too gorgeous for them to be distorting her like this", one user wrote.

"You look beautiful the way you are," another added. "Yes this is a great picture but I don't feel this is the best representation of your actual body type."

It was labelled "disrespectful", "ridiculous" and some poor sod in People's photo department got a real grilling as well ("Bad bad Photoshop, I could do a better job!").

Williams clearly reads the comments because she quickly took the photo down and replaced it with the untouched version.

PHWOAR, basically.

Clearly the the original was an ace because the compliments began rolling in.

"Thanks Serena," one woman wrote. "You're an inspiration to all the little girls out there."

"I love what you stand for and wish others would quit trying to alter your message and genetics," said another.

Their only criticism seemed to be it didn't make the cover, that honour has gone to Jennifer Aniston this year.

Anyway, glad that's over. Time to get on with being Serena bloody Williams then, I guess.
