Quakers Hill shooting: Man shot dead at police station in Sydney's west.

A man has been shot dead during a confrontation with officers at Quakers Hill police station in Sydney’s west, police have confirmed.

A critical incident investigation has been launched following the death.

In a statement, police said emergency services were called to the station about 10:40am today after receiving reports that a man had suffered a gunshot wound.

“This followed a confrontation during which a police firearm was discharged. The man later died,” the statement said.

No police officers were injured in the incident, the statement added.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

The police station is on the corner of Pearce and Lalor roads.

Several police officers, ambulance and fire crews were at the scene, along with a small crowd of onlookers.

Bus routes 752 and T72 have been diverted away from Pearce Road and Lalor Road.

Quakers Hill childcare centres in lockdown

Blacktown Council said in a statement that two childcare centres had been placed under lockdown in response to the incident.

The Kerry Jones Childcare Centre and the Quakers Hill Pre School are across Lalor Road from Quakers Hill Police station.

“Both centres immediately implemented standard and well-rehearsed lockdown procedures,” said acting Blacktown City Mayor Jacqueline Donaldson in the statement.

“All children and staff are safe — the incident occurred across the street from both child care facilities and is entirely unrelated to either childcare centre.”

A worker from the Kerry Jones childcare centre across the road said she was reassuring parents all children were safe.
