A Thai man is recovering in hospital after a terrifying incident where a three-metre python latched onto his penis while he was using the toilet.

The snake had slithered through the plumbing in Attaporn Boonmakchuay’s home in East Bangkok and attacked him on Wednesday.

Despite his chirpy attitude as Thai television stations interviewed him, images of the 38-year-old’s blood-splattered bathroom present a different picture of the ordeal.

Boonmakchuay told Thai TV Channel 7 he struggled to remove the snake for 30 minutes before his wife and neighbour helped free him.

As his wife tied a rope around the snake, Boonmakchuay pried it’s jaws open and freed himself, but he passed out not long after. Doctors said Boonmakchuay will fully recover from the incident, and are surprised by just how positive his reaction has been.

“He has a really good attitude … even though his own wife and children were in shock. He’s been smiling and giving interviews all day from his bed,” said hospital director Dr Chutima Pincharoen.

Emergency workers had to completely remove the toilet to get the python out, and according to one responder, it has now been taken away to be released into the wild.
