Jackie O has some genius tricks for covering a cold sore at work.

Heading in to the office with a freshly-minted cold sore isn’t anyone’s idea of fun. So spare a thought for Jackie Henderson — i.e. Jackie O — whose colleagues mocked her mercilessly on live radio for the “glistening” blister on her lip.

“Don’t look at me. It’s just my cold sore, it’s in full bloom right now. It looks gross,” she told co-host Kyle Sandilands, who gleefully dubbed the sore ‘Pamela’.

“My cold sores are usually hideable… but this one’s a beauty, she’s really dark in colour,” the 41-year-old replied, adding that these days she only gets them once every four years.

Cold sores are symptomatic of the herpes simplex virus type one (HSV-1), a lifelong infection that’s often contracted in childhood or adolescence and currently doesn’t have a cure. The blisters tend to be triggered by factors like the flu, windy conditions, hormonal changes and stress.

Although there’s not much that can be done to speed up the healing process, there are ways to conceal cold sores — and it seems Henderson has some great ones up her sleeve. After all, she’s been getting cold sores since she was five, so she knows her stuff.

Step one: where possible, hide behind a conveniently-positioned object, like a coffee cup.

“I’ve noticed a few photos taken taken today, but you’re always hidden behind a cup or microphone. You’re not fooling me,” Sandilands pointed out during the show, blowing her cover.

If you have to be in a photo, take advantage of your emoji keyboard — as you can see, the lips emoji makes for a flawless cover-up.

Otherwise, you can harness the powers of makeup. Henderson’s pick is MAC lipstick in Sweet and Sour ($36), a coral shade which she claims “hides the cold sore really well when you paint over it.”

The lipstick was such a lovely colour, in fact, that fellow KIIS presenter Kate Langbroek decided to sneakily try it on during her show later in the day. However, she quickly learned the error of her ways.

As Langbroek’s co-host Dave Hughes was quick to point out — along with many of her Instagram followers — Henderson had been using the lipstick on her cold sores to conceal them.

And, just in case you needed a reminder, cold sores are highly contagious when active. Whoops.

“I can’t believe you used my lipstick! … Did you not wipe it beforehand with a tissue?” Henderson exclaimed, having called in to the program.

Understandably, Langbroek — who has never had a cold sore before — was a little horrified.

“It was just sitting here and it was such a pretty colour … I thought you’d be creeped out by me using your lipstick, it never occurred to me that I should be creeped out by using your festy stick,” she explained.

Oh dear.

The contagious nature of cold sores means Henderson had also been forced to keep a little distance from husband Lee and daughter Kitty.

"The whole family's like, 'No, no, don't come near me.' All I want is a kiss and a cuddle from somebody," she told Sandilands.

However, there was one silver lining to the situation — as she pointed out, at least she didn't have to deal with the cold sore on national television. "What if I was Lisa Wilkinson? What would she do in this situation?" she asked.

We wish 'Pamela' the cold sore a speedy recovery.
