Which breakfast radio star just announced they're quitting?

Sing it with us. “Don’t you treat me bad, don’t you make me sad. Our love could be deep as the ocean. If you can’t be true, I’ve got news for you: Just remember I can be…poison”.

It must be that time of year again…

After just one year in radio, co-host/singer/model/actor Sophie Monk has quit the struggling 2dayFM breakfast show.

Perhaps 2dayFM was ‘poison’ to her career?

(If you don’t get the Bardot reference you didn’t watch enough reality television in 1999 and we are sad for you. Or us. OK, mostly we are sad for us.)

Monk’s management has confirmed that the star has given notice to Southern Cross Austereo (the company that owns 2dayFM) saying, “she has enjoyed the role but felt she needed to move on and seek new challenges.”

Confidential reports that Monk has received expressions of interest from other parties, “and felt with [Southern Cross Austero] management procrastinating about their plans for 2015, that she would declare herself as no longer wedded to the show beyond her current contract.”

Southern Cross Austereo’s Head of Content Craig Bruce said  “[co-host’s] Jules and Merrick are both aware of her decision. We’re all completely comfortable with her position.”

This news has added heat to rumours that Hamish Blake and Andy Lee will return to the breakfast slot in 2015 to make up for the huge audience losses the station suffered after Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O defected to KissFM.

But for Sophie and 2dayFM, it’s all over bar(dot) the shouting.

For those who might have forgotten Sophie’s first foray into the industry…
