It’s been a whole day since we first watched video footage of Solange Knowles lunging at Jay-Z in an elevator.

That’s 24 hours of searching for answers, waiting for details, and refreshing Beyonce’s Twitter feed for clues.

There have been many theories – Solange was drunk, Jay-Z was rude, Beyonce needed protecting – but now we have “sources” who “witnessed” the “altercation” between SK and JZ.

Anonymous but potentially well-paid sources have said that Solange and Jay Z were sprung fighting in the lobby of the hotel before they entered the lift. He was angry because some of Solange’s non-famous friends had dropped his name to get into a party. She was mad because he was going to attend Rihanna’s party without Beyonce.

This unnamed person told New York Daily News that Beyonce stood by as Solange and Jay Z squabbled ferociously near the entrance of the hotel. Jay Z was overheard saying, “Don’t use my name.”

According to a second source, Jay Z announced his plans to attend a party at Rihanna’s place… and this is how it went down.

Solange to Jay Z: “Why can’t you go home?”

Solange to Beyonce: “Why does your husband need to go to the club right now?”

Jay Z to Solange: “You’re one to talk.”

Solange to Jay Z: *punch fly kick lunge scratch hit*

There are also reports that Solange yelled at a fashion designer earlier in the evening while they were all at the Met Ball, which would suggest Solange was in a hell of a mood hours before she laid into Jay Z.

But does a cranky altercation really lead to a full-on scuffle with your sister’s husband?

Is this whole “Jay Z wanted to go to a party so Solange flipped out” explanation too simple? Even if we take into account the many rumours that Jay Z has been sleeping with Rihanna?

We may never know what went down during that eventful lift ride. Maybe we have no right to know.

But watching Solange fly-kick Bey’s husband while Bey stands back… It seems like there’s more going on here than a party invitation from Rihanna.
