I am out of the loop! Everyone is in love with this series! I have not read the books nor have I seen any of the movies. I guess I will HAVE to see it. Surely I am not the only one?!

I was bereft when I finished the 7th book and felt like friends had moved away and I wasn’t going to see them anymore.

But I’m getting to relive the magic by reading them to my 6 year old daughter who is in love with them. We’re watching the movies one by one as we finish the books. Every night we read half a chapter (slow going!). She gets excited in the climactic scenes and aghast at the plot twists. She interrupts me every 10 minutes with “I have a feory…”
And her theories are always very feasible.

We’re up to Order of the Phoenix (4th) and her latest theory is that Voldemort is touching his arm scar with his wand and making a spell that lets him read Harry mind, which is why Harry’s scar hurts. Which means Harry could point his wand at his scar and say “Avadakedavra” and it would kill Voldemort because the scar protects Harry from the curse because it was caused by the curse.
    Clever little thing!

She also thought Harry and Ron should have gone with each other to the Tri Wizard ball instead of bothering trying to find dates.
“Then they could be gay wizards!”

    Aww! Harsh!!
The Harry Potter stories were so much more than that. And what, no Snape? No Malfoy? Bah!!

I saw the last film the other night and I thought it was wonderful. Quite a relief after the doom & gloom of Part 1, but still pretty chilling in parts.
I’ve been impatiently waiting for Alan Rickman to be finally given the chance to throw himself into Snape’s story and he didn’t disappoint. And yes, I am a slightly obsessed AR fan :)
    Loved it.

i went to see the first movie the same day I had my twelve-week ultra sound in 2002.
My daughter, now 8, began the book the day before Xmas last year, and finished the last book a couple of days after Easter.
And we are going to see the last movie together on Saturday.

Literally just got back from seeing HP for the 3rd time to find this post. I will miss everything about the Harry Potter series. Although the books and films tell slightly different stories, I love them both.

I grew up with Harry and co, when the last book came out, I was about 17, so it is very close to my heart. I can’t remember a school year going by without some Potter release, which became the subject of many great conversations and debates.

It was something that my friends and I have bonded over and will continue to do so as we look back at our childhoods and hopefully one day with our own children.

To those who diss Harry Potter and its fans: let us have our fun and mourn the end in peace- each to their own people!!

I was about 6 years too early to ‘grow up’ with Harry but that didn’t stop me from becoming totally absorbed by it all. I remember wanting the first book, and my mum refused to buy it for me thinking it would be a waste of money, so I conned my nan to buy it, needless to say when I finished it in half a day, mum didn’t hesitate to buy the rest as soon as they came out.

The only thing I will say about the movies is that, as with all adaptions, I was always disappointed with how much is changed or left out of the movies.

I am very sad about it all being over, but I am more excited about the time in the not too distant future when my boys are old enough for me to share their excitment and wonder of the Harry Potter journey. Cant wait for that!

I am one of the biggest Harry Potter fans ever. I have Wizard Rock playlists, can quote A Very Potter Musical + Sequel in their entirety, have read the books ten times (at least!) each, and have seen all the movies numerous times.
I grew up with the books, having the first read to me when I was four years old, and grew up with the characters. I’m 17 now, the same age as the main characters in the final book/film. The series has been one of the only constants in my life (well, other than family/friends/etc of course) and it’s just been such a major part of my life.
I saw the final film at the midnight last Tuesday and cried from the very opening logo. When the final few scenes began I became hysterical and couldn’t stop crying. It was like the end of my childhood and I just had to sob and sob. My parents pulled me out of the cinema pretty quickly when it ended, as they were embarrassed at my massive amounts of tears, but I cried for at least an hour. It’s hard to explain, Harry Potter is this massive part of my life, and suddenly it was over.
Of course, we can always re-read the books and see the movies, Pottermore is coming (please don’t let me be a Gryffindor or Hufflepuff!!) and fanfiction exists in abundance, but in a way it’s just not the same.
The ending of the films broke my heart, as weird as it sounds, but I’m still outrageously sad a week later.
Has anyone else seen the Deathly Hallows/Halo parody on youtube? I think it was on Jezebel last week. Pretty much summed up my feelings perfectly.

I have read all seven books. Out loud to my children, just as recently as four years ago. A chapter a night, complete with a dramatic shutting of the book and a brisk, ‘right then, off to bed” to the strains of, “awwww, Muuuuummm!”.

I have watched both shows and tried to like them. But I think they are dangerous(Dr Phil) and superficial (Oprah). The episode of Oprah I watched had the Olsen Twins on it. Multi-media millionaires, fashion icons.etc. Oprah asked them what they had for breakfast and if they liked their bagels twice toasted!!!! Following this she interviewed a guy who was a multimillionare internet store owner. She asked him why he wasn’t married!! I’m going to miss HP so much. I know the last book came out 4 yrs ago but with this film, it sort of brings everything to a close. Being the same age as the characters and actors, I grew up alongside them. The impact of the series didn’t quite hit me until earlier this year when I decided to re-read the series in preparation for DH pt 2. I was never that tied to the fandom nor did it impact my life as strongly as it did for other fans, but the last film made me so emotional that I ended up crying in the cinema, along with my friends. I will never forget the midnight premiere- like-minded people that felt the same way about HP as I did, dressed up as characters from the series. And the energy in the (packed) cinema was just incredible. There won’t be anything like HP for a long time to come and I’m so glad I was a part of the HP Generation.

For me, I don’t think Harry Potter will ever end. All I need to do is open the first book again. It never gets old (well, it hasn’t yet, at any rate).Re-watching the movies before I saw the last one, I found I enjoyed them probably more than the first time I saw them, which may have something to do with nostalgia.

For me, the best story line was Professor Snape. I won’t go into any spoilers, but I cried so much during his last scene. He was the hero for me.

I can’t wait until my kids are old enough to read the books and watch the movies with me. Part of me wishes JK Rowling would write a prequel, about Harry’s parents, or more about Dumbledore and Grindelwald, but maybe that would spoil it.

Anyways, major Harry Potter grieving going on in my head right now. I think I hear Philospher’s Stone calling…

I absolutely love Harry Potter. I started reading them in my early teens and have been obsessed ever since. I usually re read and rewatch all the books and movies before each new one, but because the last new one was only 6 months ago, I haven’t this time.

I cried through the entire HPDH2. First shot of Harry sitting at Dobby’s grave with “Here lies Dobby a free elf”, I thought of Dobby dying and the tears started again!

You have to be pretty tough to not have cried in the last movie when Dobby died, “Such a beautiful place to be with friends”, OMG I am getting tears in my eyes just typing it! I’ve watched it 3 times and still bawl each time! Dobby’s death was definately the one that made me the most upset, probably second was Snape because I felt sorry for him more than being devastated at his death.

Hilarious video! And thanks for bowing to the twitter pressure for a HP post!

    Anyway….

I loved the final movie. It was SO INCREDIBLY AWESOMESAUCE! I thought it really captured the feel of the book. Oh, and McGonagall is the shit. Like seriously, I had no idea (and I’ll leave it at that because I’m sure not everyone has seen the movie…)

My only sore point is the epilogue. I’ve always hated, from when I first read it in the book. The way both the film & book end WITHOUT the epilogue is wonderful (and, I think, more “British”). Oh, and don’t get me started on pairings or on the names of the children…(won’t somebody THINK of the CHILDREN!!!)

I love Harry Potter. To death. I’ve already signed up for the release of “Pottermore”. I cried all the way through the movie (and not just because it had some incredibly sad moments…) I grew up with these films, I’m the same age as the actors…It feels weird to have them end. But I’m glad I got to share in the magic :D

    As for Harry Potter…

I’ve been a fan since probably 2003 when my friend’s daughter begged me to read them. I love the books for their brilliant themes of love, redemption, friendship etc etc… I love the movies too but I honestly wouldn’t follow them if I hadn’t read the books!

I don’t want to give away spoilers, but I will say that being the goody-two-shoes that I am, I believed Dumbledore in the first book when he said he trusted Snape. It made the end so satisfying… the Prince’s Tale was divine, I sniffled the whole way through it :)

McGonagall had some beautiful scenes in the books that didn’t quite make it to the movies. I re-read the Deathly Hallows before seeing the film last week and I was so moved by her reaction to Harry in Ravenclaw tower right before they chase Snape out of Hogwarts. Everyone else had met Harry with suspicion when he said he was on a quest from DD, but not McGonagall. Her immediate response was trust and support – what a loyal woman! I love her :)

I know! And I have always suspected she was one mightily powerful witch so it was nice to see her in action and yes, supporting Harry , great loyalty. When her and Molly face up to the oncoming battle I got shivers up my spine:))))

    a quote, from Stephen King

“Harry Potter is about doing what is right in the face of adversity. Twilight is about how important it is to have a boyfriend”

    So true! and funny! :)

I won’t patronise you with the “oh you don’t know what you’re missing out on” line … but if you ever find yourself in traction for several months (god forbid!) you could do worse than to pick up a copy of HP ;)

Ohhh I love it! I’m a bit sad about it all ending… I started with the books when they first were released, I think I was 11. So I’ve very much grown with them and eagerly awaited the release of each new book, and would devour them in one sitting, breaking only to occasionally jam easy to eat food into my face.

The final movie really was quite good, got a few little shivers of joy at certain moments (YOU BITCH! Knew Molly had it in her!!) so while I’m sad for it to be ending, I’m grateful for it, and am glad the final few movies really did the books justice! x

that is one of my favourite parts out of all the books (“not my daughter, you bitch”). though i thought it wasn’t quite as good in the movie as in the book… (it was more immediate in the book. and also there was more satisfaction, because they went over F’s death so quickly in the movie).

Omg that is hilarious will def have to share it on my blog! I watched the last movie on the weekend. Was sad to see it end, funnily enough my husband hasn’t seen any of the movies or read the books as opposed to me who has seen all movies and read the books at least 2x each! We ended up watching the first movie on Friday night so he had an idea of whats going on and plan to watch the other movies as well. I’m looking forward to Pottermore and will def be telling my future kids about this!

That is so funny and so cute! My husband has decided he’s finally going to see the final movie with me, despite not having seen any of the others or (heaven forbid!) having read any of the books. I told him I would give him a summary, but realised that would be impossible given my long-winded story-telling nature. May just have to show him this!

I told my husband the same thing but he actually wants to watch the movies. Although he’s already seen the last one. I’m not complaining though I’ll happily watch them again:)

Probably should have mentioned that my husband is extremely anti-Harry Potter (and Lord of the Rings!). His ambition is to be interviewed as an old man, who has never seen any of the movies or read any of the books. He doesn’t want to watch any of the others, just this one. Baffling, really!
