Could this be more upsetting?
Friends co-creator Marta Kaufman has said that Monica and Chandler, Friends‘ long-running lovebirds (not like those on-off types Ross and Rachel) were never meant to be.
The episode Ross’s Wedding Part II depicts Chandler and Monica having a London fling.
Once flung, that was meant to be that.
But the show’s creators had no idea quite how much audiences would love to two characters together.
When the episode was being filmed, they actually had to take a break in filming because members of the live studio audience were completely beside themselves.
This might never have happened… Post continues after video.
“We had to stop [taping] the show because people were screaming,” Kaufman said at the ATX Television Festival.
“We thought it was going to be funny and we were going to get rid of it. Suddenly, the audience told us they had been waiting for that and we had to rethink how we were going to keep going and change the relationship. But that wasn’t a person — it was an entire, immediate expression of joy.”
Huh.
This moment caused so much audience shrieking that filming had to pause.
And as for Ross and Rachel, with their constant break-taking – well, they weren’t supposed to be the show’s central couple either.
So who were meant to be together? It was Monica and… Joey.
NO WAY!
HUH?
Apparently they seemed like the two most “sexual of the characters”.
That’s crazy talk.

Brad Pitt!
The greatest TV couple ever.
Anyway, the rest, as they say, is history and Chandler and Monica became the most solid and secure Friends coupling on the show.
