Morning tv favourite, Emma Freedman has a brand new gig.

Emma Freedman, who was “let go” from the Nine Network’s today show six weeks ago, has landed a shiny new gig — and this time, it’s in radio.

The 26-year-old former Today weather presenter will be working for Southern Cross Austereo, as co-host of a nightly program on Today’s Hit Network. The bubbly presenter will be co-hosting new national program The Scoopla Show with Jules Lund and Emma Freedman, airing weeknights at 6pm.

Head of Today Network Dave Cameron is rightly chuffed about the appointment, saying, “Emma Freedman is an absolute knock-out new talent for radio”.

The bubbly presenter shared the news on Instagram, posting a promotional photo of herself and 35-year-old TV and radio personality Lund with the caption: “Well here we are, doing the fun ‘oh you’re so hilarious Em/Julsey’ shots for our brand new radio show!

@juleslund and I will be on air across Southern Cross Austereo stations every weeknight, for The Scoopla Show – think entertainment, movies, music, pop culture, fashion. We start Monday. And we are excited!”

The Scoopla Show with Jules Lund and Emma Freedman will air weeknights at 6pm.

“I’m really excited and really happy”, Freedman told news.com.au of the new role.

“I feel like I’ve found a spot within the SCA family and now have a job that’s mine, that belongs to me, that I can stick my teeth into and take ownership of and a job where I’m not filling in for anyone.”

Today’s Hit Network is Australia’s number 1 FM radio network, with just over 3.5 million metro listeners tuning in each week — so the gig is definitely good news for the fan favourite, whose dismissal from Channel Nine in December came as a shock to viewers across the country.

A Channel Nine spokesman confirmed in December that Channel Nine would not be renewing the presenter’s contract for 2015, stating that “Emma is no longer doing Weekend Today Weather”.

“We’re not going out to find a new Emma. At this point there isn’t a name,” a ‘source’ said at the time.

It’s believed that Emma was the victim of budget cuts at Nine but the news disappointed Emma’s loyal fan-base, with many taking to Twitter to share their outrage at the decision.

Among her most vocal supporters was her father, racing identity, Lee Freedman, who tweeted the following:

Freedman told news.com.au she was “initially really angry” with her dad over the tweet.

“He is a bit useless with tech, but he didn’t tell me he was doing that. I kept getting calls about my Dad’s tweet and I was like ‘what is going on?’ and when I saw what he’d said I was like ‘oh Dad, I don’t know if that’s the best way to handle it’ but I guess he’s just a very proud dad.”

Congratulations on the new job, Emma. We have no doubt you’ll nail it.
