Finally we know: Why was Adele using a flip phone in her music video?

The world’s greatest mystery has been solved.

For the first time in four years, very famous singer/songwriter/tear-bringer Adele released a song.

This is obviously huge news for those who have ever or will ever experience a break-up.

But instead of focusing on the very emotional yet oddly uplifting song, all anyone could focus on was the flip-phone she used at the start of the clip:

What is this thing?

In this age of smartphones, many wondered why Adele was using a phone that’s main feature was the game ‘Snake’ instead.

Finally, after four WHOLE days of wondering, we have an answer.

The director of the clip Xavier Dolan has told LA Times the response “the real explanation is that I never like filming modern phones or cars.

They’re so implanted in our lives that when you see them in movies you’re reminded you’re in reality.

“If you see an iPhone or a Toyota in a movie, they’re anti-narrative, they take you out of the story. If I put an iPhone or a modern car in a movie it feels like, ‘I’m making a commercial.”

TOO MUCH REALITY.

I definitely get it. We are far too reliant on smartphones and they’re very expensive and Adele’s voice is so beautiful I’ll just about do anything she advocates.

So in a bid to support her and stop feeling like I myself am a walking smartphone advertisement, I decided to look a bit more into flip phones.

It did not go well.
