As a mum of two boisterous boys, I’m always looking for fun, family-friendly activities to keep my kids happy, entertained and meltdown-free. These school holidays, Scenic World in the Blue Mountains has everything I’m looking for and more. Located just 90 minutes from Sydney with stunning scenery in every direction, it’s the perfect spot for families to relax and create special memories together. Here are some of the reasons you need to hop to Scenic World these Easter holidays.

1. It has the steepest passenger railway in the world.

Like so many kids, mine are obsessed with trains, so Scenic World’s passenger railway is sure to be a hit. Riding on a 52-degree incline will thrill the whole family and the glass roof and big windows mean it’s the best way to see the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains.

2. You can wander through a rainforest filled with world-class sculptures.

There’s a reason why #childhoodunplugged has become such a popular hashtag on Instagram. With so much technology at our fingertips, it’s more important than ever to get outdoors and connect with our kids and nature. I can’t imagine a better place to “unplug” than a stunning rainforest transformed into an outdoor art gallery. Now in its sixth year, Sculpture at Scenic World showcases sculptures by 42 artists along a 2.4km stretch of natural rainforest. The exhibition is open from 7 April – 7 May and can be accessed as part of your Scenic World Unlimited Discovery Pass.

3. It has both the largest (and steepest) cable car in Australia.

Your family can take in stunning views of  the Three Sisters, Orphan Rock and Mt Solitary as you gently glide down into the Jamison Valley on the Cableway.  You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Katoomba Falls from the Skyway  -  suspended 270 metres above ancient ravines, offering a glass floor view  for the more adventurous passengers.

4. Your kids can get hands-on at a sculpture workshop.

Do you have a budding artist in the family? The Sculpture for Small People workshops inspire children of all ages to learn new skills and create their own unique artwork. For only $15, your kids will have fun creating mini-beasts, ceramic vessels, mosaics, gold-leafed Easter eggs or clay seed pods. The different-themed workshops run every weekend from 10.30am during the holidays (secure your spot by calling Scenic World on 02 47800245 or emailing sculpture@scenicworld.com.au).

5. It offers great value for money!

As every parent knows, the school holidays can be an expensive time. We recently took our kids to watch an animated movie and it cost us $99 for an hour and a half of entertainment (factoring in the obligatory popcorn and choc tops). For the same amount we could have spent an entire day at Scenic World with unlimited access to all the rides including the railway, cable car, skyway and access to the walkway and sculpture exhibition. The $99 Unlimited Discovery Pass is valid for 2 adults and up to 5 children under 14 years old, perfect if you have a large family or your kids want to invite some friends along for the fun. Earlybird discounts are also available for visitors who arrive before 10am during Easter and the school holidays.
