It was the speech that stopped the Golden Globes: respected actress Meryl Streep used her acceptance speech for the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille award at the 2017 ceremony to take US President-elect to task.
During her speech, Streep said there was one performance throughout the year that “stunned” her.
“It sank its hooks in my heart. Not because it was good; there was nothing good about it, but it was effective and it did its job. It made its intended audience laugh and show their teeth,” she said.

I wish actors would stop talking politics, it's always cringeworthy.
Trump won for a reason. Folk are sick and tired of ivory tower living types, who are always out of touch.
So they chose the Trump tower instead! Go Trump!
They chose the pied piper that leads them to the cliff.
When I think of someone in touch, Trump is exactly who comes to mind. I'm inspired by his grasp of reality, his compassion, the way he has battled those same struggles of paying the mortgage that I have. He really provides a voice for those who don't have one, the overlooked white educated who are discriminated against in so many ways.

So they chose THE MOST out of touch person they could find. They basically shot themselves in the foot because they don't like their shoes and now they're complaining that their foot hurts. Is there anyone he hasn't offended yet? Nothing surprises me about America anymore.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't she receive this award in recognition of her lifetime's worth of achievement? Wouldn't the most appropriate use of that speech have been, you know, thanking everyone who has helped her to achieve in her life, instead of straying a million miles off topic and turning HER moment into yet another Trump story? While she spent 6 minutes squandering her opportunity to show gratitude, Trump would've, what, made another million dollars or so? She didn't hurt Trump one bit, but she did do herself and those who should've been mentioned in her speech (as opposed to someone not at all related to her career whom she just happens to dislike) a great disservice.
