Any woman who has spent hours, days, even years trying to find the perfect foundation knows what a momentous, Lord of the Rings-level journey it can be.

It’s a long, stressful search that only leaves you more desperate and broken with every slightly-off-tone hand swatch. Stumbling on the right foundation is… well, it’s borderline revelatory.

With this in mind, the news that there’s a 12,000-long wait list for a soon-to-be-released foundation is far less surprising than it should be.

Yves Saint Laurent’s Fusion Ink Foundation goes on sale next month, but it could already be the most hotly-anticipated foundation of all time. According to The Telegraph, 12,000 women in the UK have added their names to the product’s waiting list at YSL counters since July 1.

Apparently, the reason for all this hysteria hype is twofold: firstly, current 'It girl' Cara Delevingne is the face of the Fusion campaign. That doesn't hurt.

Secondly, Fusion is apparently the most "scientifically advanced makeup in the world" and has been created using space-age technology. We're talking next-level stuff right here.

This is what the folks at YSL - creators of that perennial best-seller Touche Eclat, told The Telegraph:

YSL are using [the technology] to create a stellar base, using a material used originally in the technique of trapping fine particles in outer space, and chosen for its honeycomb surface that in this instance can absorb four times its weight in sebum (which is why it promises to keep skin matte, come possible rain, shine, humidity or heat).

Okay, that does sound quite impressive. They also made trial subjects wear the stuff for 24 straight hours, and apparently most women testing it didn't feel uncomfortable, even after a full day's wear.

All this leaves us wondering what's next in makeup technology - foundation that uploads memories to your brain? Face cream with actual gravity-defying properties? Mascara that actually grows your lashes? We can only hope.

How long would you be willing to wait for the perfect foundation?
