8 reasons to be glad the X-Files are coming back

In excellent news for anyone who believes in aliens and everyone who enjoyed the smouldering sexual tension between Mulder and Scully, it was announced today that the X-Files are coming back for a special six-episode ‘event series’.

The iconic series first aired 22 years ago in 1993, and spent the next 9 years and 202 episodes, cementing their place in pop-culture history.

David Duchovny took to Instagram to announce the much-anticipated reunion.

American television network, Fox, announced today that they've given the mini-series the go-ahead. There's no air-date yet, but production will commence in the next few months and Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny are both on board as Agent Dana Scully and Agent Fox Mulder respectively.

Since the X-Files ended over 13 years ago, spawning two spin-offs and two related movies, 54-year-old Duchovny most notably starred in TV show, Californication from 2007-2014. Anderson's latest role has been as Hannibal Lecter's psychotherapist in Hannibal.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, we've decided to compile the 8 reasons why we're excited they're coming back, you could even say the 8 reasons why we ... want to believe.
