Hot cross bun traditionalists: you may want to avert your eyes (or read on if 2019 is the year you’re finally ready to escape your comfort zone).
Woolworths has just released a couple of slightly wacky yet delicious-sounding hot cross bun flavours that make choc-chip sound bland.
Mamamia’s daily news podcast The Quicky will get you up to speed on what you need to know today….
Prepare your taste buds for:
Banana and caramel
White chocolate and raspberry.
We don’t know about you, but we’re on board with the adventurous new flavours.
But we’ll pretty much eat anything involving chocolate or caramel.
Or hot cross bun related.
…Or, you know, sweet.
Woolworths Head of Bakery, Ben Thompson, said: “This year, Woolworths is adding another layer of decadence to your seasonal treats with two new additions to 2019’s hot cross bun lineup.
“The limited-edition flavours of Banana & Caramel and Raspberry & White Choc have the perfect combination of dessert-like sweetness to compliment the classic fruit inclusions.”
He went on to describe the process of deciding on flavour combos, and we are officially jealous of the “hot cross bun samplers” involved:
“Our team of bakers had a lot of fun sampling new flavour combinations to come up with these two additions to the Easter range and we are confident they’re going to become a hot favourite with our customers.”
The limited edition flavours join the growing Woolworths range of buns, including brioche style with fruit if you’re fancy, traditional if you’re a purist, fruitless if you’re picky, and Mini Cadbury chocolate chip hot cross buns if you’re… well, everyone.
All available for $3.50.
And if you can’t get enough of that sweet, sweet hot cross bun flavour, you can even serve them with a dollop of Woolworths’ hot cross bun ice cream, because why the hell not?
‘Tis the season, after all.
