1. Melbourne woman charged with murder after allegedly running over her partner.

A woman is expected to face a Melbourne court today charged with murdering her partner after a fatal car park hit-and-run.

Jess Lee Donker, 29, allegedly ran over her partner, Richie Powell, 32, at a carpark outside a Sunbury kindergarten, Seven News reports.

Emergencies services were called to the scene about 6.15 Sunday morning and found the man dead.

Victoria Police detective acting senior sergeant Nick Densley said there may have been “a number of events that led up to this incident between those parties”.

Donker faced an out of sessions court hearing on Sunday night and is set to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court today.

2. Sydney man drowns in Bali resort pool.

A 27-year-old Australian man has drowned in a resort swimming pool in Ubud, Bali.

Vasco Rodrigues, from Sydney, was holidaying with his girlfriend at the time, AAP reports.

Miroslava Kubeckova, 35, told Indonesian police that her boyfriend went for a swim after they had breakfast, while she went to their room.

She said when she returned about 90 minutes later, Rodrigues was at the bottom of the pool.

Rodrigues was pronounced dead at a local health care clinic.

Police say they do not suspect any foul play.

3. Rolf Harris faces new charges in London court.

Rolf Harris will face court in London, charged with indecently assaulting seven women and girls between 1971 and 2005.

The entertainer will face court on Monday via videolink from a Stafford prison where he is serving five years and nine month’s jail after being found guilty of 12 counts of indecent assault in 2014.

The 86-year-old has pleaded not guilty to seven charges of indecent assault and one alternative charge of sexual touching, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

The offences were allegedly committed between 1971 and 2004 and relate to seven women aged between 12 and 27 at the time, who will appear in court.

Three of the charges relate to alleged indecent assaults on girls aged under 14 and one relates to an alleged indecent assault on a disabled woman outside a London hospital in 1977.

4. Queen makes first public outing since illness.

Queen Elizabeth was seen at a church near her home in Norfolk on Sunday – her first outing since a “heavy cold” kept her indoors for several weeks.

Prince Philip accompanied her to St Mary Magdalene Church on her Sandringham estate and both seemed well as they emerged from their car and walked inside.

The couple were greeted by a small crowd of supporters and press.

Her Majesty missed the weekly ritual over Christmas and New Year’s, struck down by an illness described by palace spokespeople as a “heavy cold”, which kept her indoors.

5. Terror-related truck attack in Jerusalem kills four.

At least four people have been killed, and 17 others injured when a truck rammed a squad of Israeli soldiers in Jerusalem.

The Palestinian man driving the truck, who was shot dead after the attack, was likely a supporter of Islamic State, according to Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“We know the identity of the attacker, according to all the signs he is a supporter of Islamic State,” Netanyahu said.

“We have sealed off Jabel Mukabar, the neighbourhood from where he came, and we are carrying out other actions which I will not detail.”

Israel’s military said that a female officer and three officer cadets, two of which were women, were killed, Reuters reports. All were aged in their twenties.

6. US seeks death penalty in airport shooting.

The man accused of killing five travellers at a Florida airport could face the death penalty if convicted.

Investigators are still investigating accused killer Esteban Santiago’s motive for carrying out the shooting, which also injured six people, Channel Nine reports.

The 26-year-old Iraq war veteran was charged with an act of violence at an international airport resulting in death – which carries a maximum punishment of execution – and weapons charges.

Authorities do not know why he chose to attack at the airport and have not ruled out terrorism.
