The one factor that makes him more likely to cheat.

As women we have fought hard for equality, equal pay and the same opportunities in the work place for centuries. As women we still fight to reap the same benefits and privileges as men.

But apparently all this fighting is becoming a detriment to our relationships. Apparently men feel so inferior when a woman is more successful than them they have to stray.

In a new study from The National Longitudinal Survey of Youth we have just found out that men are more likely to cheat on their partners if the woman earns more. If men are more financially dependent on their partner they feel the need to stray.

Yes ladies, all that hard work you are putting in to reach your potential and to earn the same as your male counterparts comes with a consequence.

Data from the survey between 2001 - 2011 shows that men from heterosexual couples between 18 and 32 years old are more likely to cheat if their partner earns more than them. The study shows that as men's earnings increase compared to their wives, it is less likely that they will cheat.

The Guardian reported, “It’s 2015 and they’re looking around at their very successful women peers and they still feel this need to live up to that expectation,” said Christin Munsch, a University of Connecticut professor and author of the study, which was published in the American Sociological Review. “It speaks to how strong of a social norm that is, particularly in older generations, and I think that’s what’s going on with men who are economically dependent,"

Out of 2,757 individuals, the majority of men needed to earn more to stay faithful - but not too much more. The results also showed that once the man earns more than 70 per cent of the couple's total income they're more likely to cheat, again.
