Jayde Kendall went missing 10 days ago.

10 days since her niece and nephew have seen her.

10 days since she packed her school bag and headed off for Lockyer District State High School near Toowoomba in QLD.

10 days since she failed to turn up to her after-school job at McDonalds.

10 long days since this 16-year old has been seen.

So where is Jayde Kendall?

The 16-year old school girl went missing from her hometown of Gatton on Friday, August 14.

The 16-year old school girl went missing from her hometown of Gatton on Friday, August 14.

Yesterday police on horseback and dirt bikes, along with State Emergency Service volunteers searched Apex Park, in Gatton’s south for any evidence of the missing teen.

As police continue the search newspaper reports have began to use phrases such as “hopes she will be found alive are fading fast” and “grave concerns.”

But detectives say this is still a missing persons investigation as there is no clear evidence pointing to foul play.

This is still a missing persons investigation

Jayde was last seen getting into a red car after leaving school on August 14th.

The driver of the car, an 18-year old male, came forward after several days and gave police what they say was a “version of events”.

The male driver is said to be of interest to police but not a suspect in her disappearance. Police have asked for members of the public to try and verify the information given by the 18-year old driver of the vehicle.

Gatton – where Jayne was last seen.

Detective Inspector David Isherwood said the car was alleged to have travelled around the Gatton CBD and surrounds between 3pm and 6pm on Friday 14th August.

“What we’ve found is that there’s no information come forward that we can verify the story that’s been given by the driver of that vehicle,” he said.

“He has given a plausible explanation, but our normal inquiries have not been able to determine whether that explanation is true and correct or whether it is in fact false.”

The driver is described as Caucasian, 180cm tall with a medium build and dark hair, and possibly wearing a dark-coloured top.

Her desperate father – who lost Jayde’s mother to cancer two years ago wrote on a Facebook site set up to find Jayde:

“Please help me find my daughter. She’s 16 and was last seen in her Lockyer high school uniform (tracksuit) walking out of the gate on Highview St, Gatton on Friday afternoon 3.15pm. Please just share to everyone.

Jayde’s sister too has taken to social media:

The only evidence so far – last week a passer-by found an item belonging to Jayde on a service road off the Warrego Highway in Walloon, more than 40km from where she was last.

Police said that Jayde’s phone has not been used in the last 10 days – nor has her bank account been accessed.

“The reality is that it’s sad for the family, it’s sad for the friends and it’s sad for the police that are investigating it,” Detective Inspector Dave Isherwood said.

“She’s so young and she’s a decent girl.”

“She’s so young and she’s a decent girl.”

Police have slammed social media users who brought into question Jayde’s motives for getting into a car with an 18-year old man. “He apparently attended her school, he’s a few years older and had known her through mutual contacts at her workplace,” he said.

“There’s no suggestion that he’s a boyfriend; I’m aware on social media there’s innuendo that she had older boyfriends and these sorts of things.

“I can assure you our investigation to date has revealed that she is a 16-year-old who was focused on study and work and wasn’t involved with anyone outside of her school or workplace.

“There is no suggestion whatsoever that this girl is promiscuous, that this girl is anything but a decent kid who’s tried to have a go in life.”

Family and friends have dismissed reports that the teen could have run away saying she was very close to her father after the loss of her mother.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or Crimestoppers.com.au 24 hours a day.
