“That’s a negative, Ghost Rider.” My husband Brad mutters this Top Gun line and a, err, more R-rated line from Shaun of the Dead at least once a week. Then there’s my childhood friend Nicky. Whenever she and I farewell each other we say, “Goodbye my LOOOOOOOVE” … a line from Dumb & Dumber. We’ve been doing that for 20 years. I think it’s only amusing to us. Meanwhile my other friend Katie has a habit of quoting Pretty Woman whenever she gets in a car, “Lights. Lights would be good here”.
And if I ever hear someone exclaim, “It’s raining!” I can’t help but add “Is it raining? I hadn’t noticed” – a line I consider to be the worst line (of all time!!!!!) from Four Weddings and a Funeral.

High Fidelity: What came first, the music or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss. Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?
