The biggest relationship deal breaker for single Aussies.

Your previous dating history has a big impact on your future potential dating life. Statistics say so.

If you’ve cheated on a previous partner you’re less likely to find a new one than if you’ve been a gambler in the past.

In fact 27 per cent of single Australians say that someone being a cheater is the second biggest deal breaker for relationship potential. And only six per cent of single Aussies say ‘no deal’ to a former gambler, according to RSVP’s Date of the Nation Report 2015.

The biggest deal breakers are in.

"It is a major factor for both sexes with women only slightly more concerned than men (29% v 25%)," RSVP said in a statement.

However being unfaithful wasn't the the number one deal breaker according to the report.

"The biggest deal breaker for both single men and women in Australia is a history of drug or alcohol abuse."

The research was conducted with over 3,300 Australians. The results showed that the number one thing both men and women needed in a successful relationship was trust.

"What this tells us is that Aussie singles value trust as a vital ingredient to successful long-term relationships. In keeping with this, cheating, gambling and alcohol and drug use are considered deal breakers for many singles who worry that this is a bad sign for happily ever after, RSVP's Relationship Expert and Psychologist, John Aiken said about the results.

Because of the results, RSVP have provided advice on how to date previous cheaters, and how to date as a previous cheater.

For past cheaters:

1. Follow through with promises/ commitments.

2. Deal with issues as they arise.

3. Spend lots of couple time together.

4. Be transparent/ honest.

5. Return texts/ calls.

For those dating a past cheater:

1. Understand why they cheated.

2. Be clear about how your relationship is different.

3. Have clear rules in place.

4. Spend lots of time time together.

5. Always be contactable.
