Wonderful news for a family who lost everything in the Qatar mall fire.

A New Zealand couple have christened their twins, two years after tragically losing their triplets to a mall fire in Qatar.

Martin and Jane Weekes held the christening of Parker and Poppy Weekes, who will be turning one next month, on Saturday.

The brave couple’s three-year-old triplets Lillie, Willsher and Jackson, were killed in a fire while at a nursery in the Villaggio Mall in Qatar two years ago. Thirteen children, four staff and two firefighters were killed in the fire, which was later found to be the result of an electrical fault at a Nike store nearby.

The chairman of the mall, the mall manager and an official from Qatar's ministry of trade and business have all been sentenced to jail time over the fire, however they are all appealing their sentences.

The court is up to its ninth hearing of the case, with Mr Weekes commenting that the lawyers are "doing all they can to drag out the case and delay it."

The Weekes family were optimistic leading up to Saturday's christening but still acknowledge the timing is difficult as they mourn the losses of their children.

"For a lot of the time it's manageable but then something will creep up on you and I found last week very difficult because it's the one day of their life that we don't want to commemorate," said Mrs Weekes.

The Weekes are now wishing for their court case to end, so they can return to remembering fonder memories that they shared with their triplets. And so that they can move on with their lives and enjoy their beautiful new babies.
