Russell Brand has never shied away from his womanizer image, even when he was married (briefly) to Katy Perry. And yet, every once in a while, we get a glimpse of a classier guy underneath. This week, he showed us both.
First, the sleazy side. While appearing on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Monday, Brand, 37, shamelessly made the moves on Katharine McPhee, 28. The married Smash star played along at first, but became increasingly uncomfortable as the interview went on.
"When she said 'exchanged numbers' I thought of things that I'd like to exchange with her," he quipped while McPhee talked with Fallon about the Super Bowl.
"I'm only joking," he added later. "You should never destroy a marriage unless you're really bored."
As much as Brand's interview bordered on sexual harassment, we recall that the same tactic led to his hooking up with Perry in the first place, after the 2009 MTV VMAs. Watch the clip below!
And yet, time and again, Brand refused to take the bait.
"So help me, Howard Stern," he shouted, "I will not compromise my ex-wife's vagina for the sake of ratings! That woman was perfect from top to bottom!"
As for Perry dating Mayer, Brand joked that he was the better womanizer ("I'm world class!"), but wouldn't reveal his feelings about the romance. "You have to let go of the instinct to protect someone once you divorce them," he said. (Watch the clip below!)
It's worth noting that Russell has never once said a bad word about Katy since their divorce, not even jokingly or passive-aggressively. He also didn't take any of her money when they split, though she was far richer and he was entitled.
In short, Brand puts on a good show of being a wild man — but when it really counts, he's a gentleman through and through.
