The video that proves Waleed Aly can actually do anything.

Writer, academic, co-host of The Project and Gold Logie winner Waleed Aly is one of Australia’s most likable personalities. And just when we didn’t think it was possible, the mutli-talented 37-year-old has surprised us yet again.

Over the weekend, Aly attended the Reclink Community Cup, a charity event which pits musicians and broadcasters against each other to raise money for disadvantaged Australians.

But, of course, Aly isn’t your typical broadcaster with a sub-par knowledge of music. Oh no. It turns out he can add ‘rock God’ to his already impressive CV.

A video filmed by one fan shows Aly absolutely nailing a guitar solo of the Prince classic Purple Rain. He was later joined on stage by Australian rock band Regurgitator and singer Dan Sultan. Ultimately, the broadcast team managed to beat the musical team, and without understanding the competition at all, we can assume Aly's performance played a large part in the victory.

We first saw a glimpse of Waleed Aly's musical talent this year at the Walkley Awards, when he performed Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd. On the night, Annabel Crabb tweeted, 'So I'm at a fancy award ceremony and Waleed Aly is playing Pink Floyd covers. Pretty sure I've had this dream before.' Post continues after gallery.

We've all had that dream before, Annabel. And thanks to the fan who filmed Aly's charity performance over the weekend, we're getting closer to turning our dreams into a reality.
