The aim of this artist's work is to make people smile. And she doesn't disappoint.

Welcome to Mamamia’s art endeavour, the Voulez-Vous Project. Every week we celebrate emerging artists, designers, illustrators, creators and women who knit using their vaginas. (Kidding. Maybe.)

The aim: to make the internet a slightly more beautiful, captivating, or thought-provoking place. To find out more about the Voulez-Vous project, click here.

This week’s featured artist is Laura Blythman, a designer, illustrator and creative director whose work has the ability to make people smile.

“I’m drawn to colour because it just makes me so happy, it never fails to lift my mood,” Laura says.

Her process is a little unconventional and involves doing the painting first – before cutting it up, and putting it all back together.

“Lately my process involves… covering loads of big sheets of beautiful watercolour paper in a variety of delicious colours and copper or gold leaf. Then I cut the sheets up into a million pieces and put them back together again as new artworks. I often add my signature hand drawn and painted detail too.”

“I love making people smile with my work,” she says. “When I exhibited at Supergraph earlier this year, a pretty common comment was along the lines of ‘Your work has just made me feel 20% happier’. It was SO awesome hearing that.”

If you’d like to see more of Laura Blythman’s work (or even consider purchasing a piece!) you can visit her website, online shop, Facebook, or follow her on Instagram at @laurablythman.
