12 images of perfectly controlled randomness.

Welcome to Mamamia’s art endeavour, the Voulez-Vous Project. Every week we celebrate emerging artists, designers, illustrators, creators and women who knit using their vaginas. (Kidding. Maybe.)

The aim: to make the internet a slightly more beautiful, captivating, or thought-provoking place. To find out more about the Voulez-Vous project, click here.

This week’s featured artist is Wollongong artist Caitlin Platt.

“The local beach and bushland are the perfect setting for outdoor activities,” Caitlin says. “This lifestyle inspires my work and I use painting and other forms of creativity as an outlet.”

Caitlin uses water colour ink as her painting base, and says she loves the medium for its vivid colours.

“My preliminary practice could be described as ‘controlled randomness’,” Caitlin explains. “Moving the canvas to spread and merge colours. Somehow this forms an image and I may outline the details with pencil or black ink pen.”

“My paintings and photography are lively and energetic and I hope [people] get as much enjoyment out of them as I do making them!”
